Deciding on color schemes and outfits for the whole family can feel like quite the task. Let me help guide you to the best outfit picks for your session.
Step #1 - Choose your location
What is the overall feel you are looking for in your session? open fields, beachy, studio boho, or downtown CLE? Your location will really impact the style you end up going for!
Step #2 - MOM, pick your outfit first!
Lets face it, finding a starting point for outfits can be the hardest part. I recommend you mamas find your outfit first. I know its not always preferred but I always recommend flattering gowns or long skirts with a shirt. I know this can feel intimidating to some but believe me when I say you will feel like a million bucks in the right dress. Either way, you want to wear something that makes you feel beautiful. Once you've done that you can decide on outfits for everyone else that ties in.
Step#3 - Choose a color palette that ties in with moms outfit!
Now that mom has her outfit picked out I recommend deciding on a color palette that works well with moms outfit! The goal is for everyone to be dressed differently and yet tie in together. So avoid any matching! Usually sticking to mostly neutrals with a few pops of color is ideal. Warmer neutrals will give your photos a soft glowing look, while bold and vivid colors will produce a brighter and sharper look. So keep the tones in mind when you are visualizing what look you are aiming for with your chosen location.

Step #4 - Avoid overly bright and intense colors
If you really want to add in green, instead of a vibrant color that will cast an unpleasant color onto your skin. Aim for a muted green or a deep emerald. Pink...aim for a muted rose shade etc.
Step #5 - Add texture without being overly matchy
Avoid wearing the matching dresses, instead pull a color from a dress chosen and use that shade or put one child in a timeless neutral tone (cream, grey etc) that compliments the other outfits. but maybe add an accessory that is the same color as someone else outfit to tie everyone in. Texture can be a wrap, cardigan or a textured sweater etc.
Ideally only one person will have a pattern and everyone else in solids.

Step #6 Please consider the weather
Is it going to cold? Adding layers can go a long way to keeping the images beautiful and the kids a little less cold!
Here are a few color palettes to help give visuals. I will also add a link for my client closet which is included in all sessions!
